Advent 2023 3rd Sunday

Advent 2023 3rd Sunday

This third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete Sunday.
G…Gaudete is the Latin word for “rejoice”….
The candle is pink & is called the “Shepard’s Candle,” because the color rose is a liturgical color for joy.
The color rose represents the beginning of the transition from darkness to light & a celebration, of the coming Christmas.
In the words from Luke 1,
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior”
Nestled in these rose petals from my garden is a single engraved G & a Guilloché rose locket…jewelry with meaning, jewelry with a story, jewelry awaiting the celebration ahead….
“Sorrow and joy are two sides of the same coin” Kahlil Gibran writes in The Prophet. “When you are joyous,” he says, “look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”
For many this season holds a range of emotions…. Longing for a loved one gone, memories of Christmas past…
The psalmist offers comfort “Those who go forth weeping shall doubtless come again with rejoicing.”
“I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High”
Psalms 9:2
